From the outside
He filled the emptiness with as much as he could.
From the outside he had a lot to be jealous of. He was tall strong, had perfect hair, mesmerizing green eyes, incredibly chiseled jawline and cheekbones accentuated by his dark stubble. As if that wasn’t enough a dazzling smile.
He was always well presented, with a freshly ironed shirt and precision tailored trousers that fit his well-maintained athletic physique perfectly. Paired with a flashy watch and Italian leather shoes polished so well you could see your own reflection. This was a man who wanted to be taken seriously. This man had it all.
From the outside.
Even in his downtime he kept things simple. He would either be seen leaving with bag in one hand protein shake in the other looking like he barely broke a sweat. Or in his go to weekend attire consisting of a pristine white t shirt his favourite 501 jeans and insanely expensive but, simplistic trainers.
His handsome smile and quick wit meant that he was usually surrounded by friends who would listen intently as he regaled them with another rib splitting story from his last trip away with his friends from back home.
From the outside he didn’t have a care in the world.
From the outside he had a great job, it was well paid with prospects. He would get out of bed, head to the office and sit at his desk with a smile on his face.
From the outside he was generally chipper, he would have an innocent flirt with his colleagues or a harmless prank up his sleeve.
From the outside he looked like he had it all, to some he was intimidating, and people struggled to get to know him, But they knew they liked him. They would be disappointed if he couldn’t make it for drinks on a Friday night after work. He would never give an explanation.
From the outside he looked like he had it all.
On the inside that couldn’t be further from the truth.
If you looked closely the signs were all there.
He was a man who kept his cards close to his chest and he liked it that way. He was very good at protecting himself.
A dazzling smile can hide a world of pain, A funny story can distract from prying personal questions, a busy life can distract from the deafening silence.
On the inside.
