I have been silent since the shocking EU referendum result. Safe to say 2016 has been an interesting year for politics, and by interesting I mean terrifying. First Brexit, then Trump things can only get better can’t they?

Trump’s first week as leader of the free world has certainly been a busy one. with executive orders galore and an abundance of protest. His first acts a President have seen him take money away from those that perform and provide information on abortions, take the first steps to weaken ObamaCare, come out in support of the torture method waterboarding hold hands with Theresa May to solidify the ‘special relationship’ and to top it all off impose a so-called Muslim ban. Comparisons to Hitler at this point are no longer the stuff of speculation but a harrowing reality.

In the wake of these abhorrent executive decisions, us terrified onlookers can take solace in one thing. People are not going to take this lying down. so many people have united against Trump this past week. the Women’s march struck a chord with so many. Lawyers (who quite frankly don’t have the best reputation, especially in the US) turned out at airports to defend those effected by the ‘Muslim ban’.

Barak Obama said his final words as President of the United States on January 11 2017 and in his final speech he urged the American people…

I am asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about change – but in yours. – Obama

Wednesday 11 January 2017

…and I think they listened…

On the 21st January an estimated 1 in 100 Americas united in a Women’s March against Trump alongside so many others across the globe. the make me both proud and sad in equal measure. The sheer number of people taking to the streets to demonstrate their discontent with the new leader of the USA is awe-inspiring and shows that the Human race is not going to take the appointment of a disrespectful, bigoted, power-hungry and frankly despicable human being lying down. However, it saddens me that it is still necessary protest for something as simple as equality in 2017.

Martin Beam had this to say on Twitter

‘As long as you live you’ll never see a photograph of 7 women signing legislation about what men can do with their reproductive organs.’

You would think that the second female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom would have something to say about this assault on women’s rights? Of course not she has a ‘Special Relationship’ to think about.

May has come under plenty of criticism in the UK for allowing herself to become in effect Trump’s ‘lap dog’. Remember the last time the British PM humored a President who was a few cards short of a deck?

Bush: 'Does she mean us?'

Blair: ‘Whatever you do, don’t make eye contact.’

You know things are getting worse when you wouldn’t mind having a pair of good old-fashioned war criminals back at the top…at least they were predictable right?

The British aren’t about to stay quiet about ‘Cheeto Hitler’ either. A petition to ban Trump from making his state visit to the UK garnered over 1 Million signatures and all across the country there people were protesting against his visit.

Sadly that’s not where the depravity ends Trump has also issued a US travel suspension that has been dubbed a ‘Muslim Ban’ due to the particular countries implicated by the ban. The US refugee admissions system has been suspended for 120 days which bans entry from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. (countries notably left out of Trumps travel ban include Egypt and Saudi Arabia) This order sparked outrage and resulted in protests in several airports.

Following her Resistance to Trumps travel ban Attorney General Sally Yates has today (31/1/17) been sacked. Showing once again Trump has no qualms about removing and replacing those who disagree with him.

Unlike the seemingly spineless Theresa May other World Leaders are making their voices heard…

Considering Nineteen Eighty Four is in Short supply at the moment I thought I’d leave you with some of the great man’s ever pertinent wisdom...

The atom bombs are piling up in the factories, the police are prowling through the cities, the lies are streaming from the loudspeakers, but the earth is still going round the sun, and neither the dictators nor the bureaucrats, deeply as they disapprove of the process, are able to prevent it. – The Genius of George Orwell

and also this...

Rise, like lions after slumber

In unvanquishable number!

Shake your chains to earth like dew

Which in sleep had fallen on you:Ye are many—they are few!” Percy Shelley (The Masque of Anarchy)
